Arthunkal Church, officially known as St. Andrew's Forane Church, is a popular Christian pilgrimage center located in Arthunkal, a coastal town in the Alappuzha district of Kerala, India. It is dedicated to St. Sebastian and is one of the oldest churches in Kerala, with a rich historical and cultural significance.
The church is believed to have been established in the 16th century by Portuguese missionaries. It gained prominence due to its association with the legendary appearance of St. Sebastian, who is considered a protector against diseases and epidemics. The annual feast of St. Sebastian, known as the Arthunkal Perunnal, attracts a large number of devotees from different parts of Kerala and beyond. The festivities include a colorful procession, religious ceremonies, and cultural programs.
