Illikkal Kallu

Hill Station

Illikkal Kallu is a popular tourist destination located in the Kottayam district of the Indian state of Kerala. It is a scenic hill station known for its breathtaking beauty and panoramic views. Illikkal Kallu is situated at an altitude of around 3,000 feet above sea level and is surrounded by lush green valleys and mist-covered mountains.

The name "Illikkal Kallu" translates to "Illi's rock" in the local Malayalam language. It is believed to have derived its name from an old folk tale that tells the story of a tribal youth named Illi, who fell in love with a girl from a different tribe. The couple faced opposition from their families, and in a tragic turn of events, they jumped off the cliffs of Illikkal Kallu, choosing death over separation. The rock formation is said to be the spot from where they leaped.
