This ancient temple more than 600 years old is a Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Chamundi. Chamundi Devi is worshiped here in three different forms: Maha Chamundi, Raktha Chamundi, and Bala Chamundi. Millions of women gather every year in the month of Meenam around this temple and prepare pongala. In the olden days the Kings chose this temple as the destination for bringing justice and punishing wrong doers.The accused were stood in front of Rakhta Chamundi shrine, put 21 coins as a ritual and asked to say the truth. It was believed that the goddess would treat those who were honest and punish those who lied.Hence nobody would dare to lie.
