The beach is historically significant as it was the point where the famous Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama landed in 1498, marking the start of European influence in the Indian subcontinent. In addition to the natural beauty, Kozhikode Beach is home to the historic Sree Chakkulathukavu temple, which adds to the cultural importance of the place. The beach also has a lighthouse, which visitors can climb to get panoramic views of the sea and the surrounding areas. Many local street vendors along the beach serve delicious seafood, making it a favorite hangout for both locals and tourists. The beach is open to visitors throughout the day, but the lighthouse is open from 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM.
