Mattancherry Palace

Fort & Places

Mattancherry Palace, also known as the Dutch Palace, is a historical palace located in the neighborhood of Mattancherry in Kochi (formerly Cochin), Kerala, India. It is a popular tourist attraction and a significant historical monument in the region.

The palace was built by the Portuguese in the 16th century as a gift to the Raja of Kochi. However, it underwent major renovations and modifications by the Dutch during their colonial rule in the 17th century, which is why it is often referred to as the Dutch Palace.

The architecture of the palace is a blend of Portuguese, Dutch, and traditional Kerala styles. The structure showcases a beautiful courtyard with a central temple dedicated to the royal deity Pazhayannur Bhagavati. The palace features a two-story building with long corridors and spacious halls.
