Ramakkalmedu

Hill Station

Ramakkalmedu is a popular hill station and tourist destination located in the Idukki district of the Indian state of Kerala. It is situated at an elevation of about 3,500 feet above sea level and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding hills and valleys.

Ramakkalmedu is known for its scenic beauty, lush green landscapes, and cool climate. The name "Ramakkalmedu" is derived from the two Tamil words, "Rama" and "Kalmedu," which mean "Rama's foot imprints." According to local legend, Lord Rama, the hero of the Hindu epic Ramayana, had set foot on this hilltop during his search for his wife, Sita.

One of the major attractions of Ramakkalmedu is the large wind farm located there. The windmills in the area harness the strong winds that blow across the hilltop and generate electricity. These windmills have become an iconic symbol of Ramakkalmedu and provide a unique and picturesque backdrop for the landscape.
