The Sri Chitralayam, popularly known as Sri Chitra Art Gallery establised in 1935 was inaugurated by Maharaja of Travancore Sri Chitra Thirunal representing the various genre of paintings in India along with a few from other parts of Asia. The gallery is located inside the zoo and museum complex, and is one of the three museums found inside the compound. The major attraction is the gallery is the paintings of Raja Ravi Varma one of the greatest painters of India. A large collection of paintings was gifted from the Royal House of Travancore and also from Kilimanoor Royal family . Gallery has approximately 1100 paintings displaying works from the Mughal, Rajput, Bengal, Rajasthan, and Tanjore schools of art.
